Our History

NAHSE started in the early 1930s, when a group of African-American health executives formed what was then called the National Hospital Association (NHA). This served as an affiliate of another group, the National Medical Association.

In 1936, the NHA was officially renamed as the National Conference of Hospital Administration during a meeting at Lincoln Hospital in Durham, NC. More than 30 years later, it was transformed into what is now known as the NAHSE.
